Sinus irrigation has been used in Eastern cultures for centuries in the form of a neti pot; a small pot that is placed to the nose and gravity feeds it up one nostural and out through the other. Its goal is to help clear the nasal passages and to an extent the sinus cavities.
Modern Nasal Sinus Irrigation
In recent years technology has developed more advanced ways of delivering a saline solution with healing properties to the nasal passages and deep within the sinus cavities. This includes a pulsatile irriagating style that is known to help restore normal nasal function, in that the small hairs in the nose begin to move uniformly, known as ciliary flow, to clear debris and prevent infection. Furthermore, sinus irrigators that have dual delivery methods, such as both a flow and a mist, are able to reach more deeply into the sinus cavities and gently encourage the removal of blockages.
